If you were at the January luncheon, you were likely involved in some conversation regarding the 2010 budget for the Iron County Board of Realtors and already know that the topic was tabled until the February luncheon. Typically the January luncheon involves a quick rundown of the budget, a lot of glazed eyes, and a no fuss approval. This year it is exciting to see the members getting involved with how their dollars are being allocated!

Although the bulk of our yearly dues are beyond our control (UAR and NAR portions), members do have a say in where they want the remaining dollars to be spent. Here’s the problem, though: We have been operating outside of our means for a little while now. Despite scaling back over the last couple of years, our operating costs are still higher than our income.

The budget issue will be taken up at the upcoming Brokers’ Meeting on February 5, 2010. So, if you have any suggestions/ideas, please communicate those to your broker so that you are represented at that meeting. This is your board! Your board of directors are here to represent you. So let your ideas be known! It was refreshing to have input at luncheon and hopefully the dialogue from the members will continue!!
